Course Outline Structure and Function of the Human Body 130 hours Sandy Fritz (Mosby's) Fundamentals of Therapeutic Massage Third Edition, Indications/Contraindications, Hygiene, Sanitation, Safety, Body Mechanics, Massage Manipulations/Techniques, Professionalism and Legal Issues, Assessment Procedures for Developing a Care Plan, The Scientific Art of Therapeutic Massage Graber Detox Massage 30 hours Teresa Graber developed a massage technique designed to effectively help in the detoxification of the lymphatic system in a 30 minute, full body, massage. This technique is taught to all students in her massage program. Teresa's 30 minute technique can be implemented within the time frame of an office visit in order to comply with insurance companies. Massage/Bodywork Theory, Assessment and Practice 213 hours Instructional (Hands-On) Massage, Interpretation and Analysis of Assessment, Clinical Reasoning and Problem Solving to Create Massage Care/Treatment Plans. Kinesiology 6 hours A more in depth Anatomy and reiterating and refining information on Anatomy PNF Stretching 6 hours PNF Stretching (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitated Stretching). PNF is a complex and highly effective physical therapy technique: it also uses an isometric contraction prior to the stretch to achieve greater gains than from stretching alone. Supervised Inside Clinical Hours 75 hours Once a student completes the Hands-On training and the instructor feels the student is ready to perform the work on clients then the student can start there inside Practical's. Student will be able to do this at their own pace during office hours at the school. This will allow the student to work with clients of all ages with chronic or acute pain and any form of muscular disorders with supervised instruction before they graduate to better prepare there abilities for the field of massage. Along with any form of work that is related to the massage profession. Business Practices and Professionalism 10 hours A resume, Business Plan, Startup Cost, Marketing, Reimbursement, Self Employment, Obtaining Licenses, Business Location, Arranging for Insurance, Burnout, Motivation, Client Retention Professional Standard and Ethics 24 hours Transference/Countertransference, Daul or Multiple Roles, Massage Therapy and Intimacy, Maintaining a Professional environment, Ethical Decision Making, Listening, Relational Conflicts, Ways of Dealing with Clients, What is Hipaa?, What does Hipaa cover? First Aid/CPR 8 hours Bloodborne Pathogens, Preventing Disease Transmission, Viruses, Bacteria, Fungi, Hepatitis B-C etc., Infant and Adult CPR Introduction to CranioSacral Therapy 4 hours CranioSacral is a gentle method of detection and correction that encourages your own natural healing mechanisms to dissipate these negative effects of stress on your central nervous system. Acupressure/Eastern Massage Modalities 6 hours A therapy that uses only Finger Pressure on Sore Muscle bundles and works along the Meridians and Chakars Introduction to Reflexology 4 hours Working the Feet and/or Hands on Pressure Points that coordinate with Organs in the Body Introduction to Iridology 4 hours A therapy that a therapist can learn to read the Iris of the eyes to see different conditions that are going on in the body (chronic or acute). Psychological aspects of contact with the elderly, attention to detail in the assessment of the older client. Students are taken to a local Nursing Home where they can experience practical Hands-On with the elderly. Introduction to Infant Massage 4 hours What is infant massage? The first language we all learn before we are able to speak is the language of touch. Infant massage is a bonding activity between parents and their children. In most basic terms, infant or pediatric massage refers to the process of stroking the muscles of the infant using a variety of specialized massage techniques. Vocalization, eye to eye contact, and other positive behavioral reinforcements are also important components of the massage. This area of study corroborates the essential importance of touch and how we as humans must have touch to survive. Through this coursework, student's will gain a better understanding of touch and bond-reforcement. Teresa's Deep tissue Massage Modalities 48 hours Learning to be able to work the deeper layers of tissue and to palpate each one, along with Cross-Fibering the tissue, Elongating the tissue, Finger Pressure (10-12 seconds) on the tissue to release Sore Muscle bundles Animal Therapy 4 hours Learn the benefits on how to work with animals and to soothe and comfort them through Massage. Animal massage is the use of various forms administered by the hands to the musculoskeletal system with the principle of facilitating good health. Interest in this field has been on the rise over the past few years. Many countries and some states in the U.S. recognize massage as a health care service for animals, and each has its own guidelines regarding training and recognition of practitioners.
