Teresa E. Graber - Director of Education

Teresa has owned and operated Teresa's Therapeutic Massage & Spa since Feb. 2000. She has been practicing massage therapy since 1996 and also taught at Indiana University of Kokomo (IUK) in 2001 for Massage Therapy. She then started her own school, Teresa's School of Therapeutic Massage in April of 2002.

Teresa has been working for American Health Network/ Kokomo Family Care since 1998, a Comprehensive Healthcare Center, specializing in low back, neck and shoulder pain along with muscular disorders. She decided to enter the field of massage after caring for her father who suffered from Alzheimer's. Teresa saw the benefits it had on him and then pursued her career in Massage Therapy. She received her massage education and certification from IUPUI of Indianapolis in 1996.

Teresa will be teaching all the Massage/ Bodywork Therapy, along with Standards & Ethics and Assessment & Practice. Therapies include Deep Tissue therapy/ Therapeutic Swedish Massage/ Graber Detox Massage/ CranioSacral Therapy, Infant & Geriatrics/ Terminally Ill Massage, Chair Massage, Animal Therapy, etc. Teresa has also received her certificate in Equine Massage Therapy from Integrated Touch Therapy, Inc. Circleville, OH in 2004 to pursue her hobby in horses.

Carolyn Townsend, RNC, MSN, CMT, CCE

Anatomy/ Physiology/ Pathology

Carolyn teaches the Structure & Function of the Human Body and Clinical Pathology of various conditions, especially as they relate to Massage Therapy. Carolyn received an Associates of Science Degree (1979) and a Bachelor's Degree in nursing (1988) from Indiana University Kokomo. She earned a Master's Degree in nursing from IUPUI and is certified as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, as well as a Certified Childbirth Educator. Carolyn was a member of the first graduating class of Teresa's School of Therapeutic Massage. Carolyn has several years of experience in Medical/Surgical, Obstetrics and Community Health Nursing. She has been involved in community health and staff education fro 12 years. After teaching Anatomy & Physiology for the IUK Massage Therapy program for 2 years, she joined the staff at Teresa's Therapeutic Massage School in 2002.

Continuing education programs that Carolyn has attended includes courses in:  Cranio Sacral Therapy 1, Prenatal & Post Partum Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy for the Treatment of Cervical Strain & Sprain and Neuromuscular Therapy for the Treatment of Low Back and Hip pain.

Patti Julius, Rn, BSN, CDE, CMT

Anatomy/ Physiology/ Pathology

Patti teaches the Structure & Function of the Human Body  and Clinical Pathology of various conditions, especially as they relate to Massage Therapy. Patti received an Associates of Science Degree (1984) and a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (1997) from IUK. She graduated from Teresa's School of Therapeutic Massage in 2004. Patti has years of nursing experience in Medical/ Surgical, Critical Care and Community Health Nursing. She has worked in staff education for 12 years and is an American Heart Association CPR and First Aid Instructor. She is also a Certified Diabetes Educator and teaches Diabetes Self-Management Skills.

Dr. Benjamin Stout, D.C., P.C.

Facilitated Stretching-Joints-Kinesiology

Dr. Stout will be teaching Facilitated Stretching, PNF ( Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) and Joint Movements. PNF Stretching is a complex and highly effective physical therapy technique; it also uses an isometric contraction prior to the stretch to achieve greater gains than from stretching alone. Dr. Benjamin is married to Melissa Stout who is also a Dr. of Chiropractic and Acupuncturist. They own and operate Stout Chiropractic, 2705 S, Berkley Rd., Kokomo, In.

Douglas Nelson, LMT, PNMT, NCBTMB

The founder and principle instructor of Precision NMT seminars, Doug has taught hundreds of seminars and to various populations from physicians conferences to educational seminars for lay people. Practicing massage therapy since 1977, he has studied with a host of great educators and worked in several clinical environments. He is the president of BodyWork Associates, a sixteen therapist massage therapy clinic in Champaign, IL which has been in operation for over twenty years. Doug still maintains a very active practice; he doesn't just teach, he has a busy personal practice which is the laboratory for the development of the work. Doug has treated thousands of clients over the years, from professional athletes (he has been a neuromuscular therapy consultant to the Chicago Bulls and the St. Louis Rams) to factory workers (training the massage staff of Honda Motor Company) and tradesmen trying to go to work while suffering undo musculoskeletal pain. Doug is passionate about the efficacy of the work and is conducting several clinical research studies to investigate PNMT.
